You had me at….

Ass. Yep — I said ass. And before you gasp, it’s also the official name of the 10K I’m running today: the Haul Ass Running Festival. After a 10-year race hiatus, I’m dusting off my sneakers for this one — and yes, I’ll be proudly be leaving the event in a donkey T‑shirt.

This race benefits Luvin’ Arms Animal Sanctuary in Erie, CO — a compassionate nonprofit that rescues abused and neglected farmed animals. Some of the sanctuary’s VIPs are actual donkeys, so I couldn’t think of a better first race back: running for a cause that brings literal ass-ets to mind.

Am I nervous? Totally. But I’ve spent the last four months training with Coach Doug and the awesome folks at Mile High Runners, so I’m banking on their wisdom (and my stubbornness). Here’s to hauling ass for a great cause — and maybe earning a few snacks from the donkey fan club at the finish line.
